Teaching Philosophy:
I teach just to see that look on a student's face when they have an "AH-HAH" moment. I like to see the light bulbs go on in their minds and I feed off of the class' energy and that's what truly keeps me enthused about the curriculum. I realize that statistics can be dry, but it is the students' eagerness to learn that really drives me to present the material in new and interesting ways each semester. I also enjoy providing this form of a social service. I realize that there is a large body of people who are trying to enhance and enrich their lives by getting a degree and I am proud to be part of that process.
I know that I can't turn everyone into a math major but I would hope that any student in my classroom would at least gain an appreciation for mathematics and statistics and see where it is applied in the world around us. You can develop an appreciation for the mathematical sciences much like one develops an appreciation for art or music.
