Borrowing Books from the Library

Borrowing Books from the Library

There are 243,000 books in the High Library’s collection, so why not check one out? The only thing you need to borrow books from the Library is an Elizabethtown College ID card. With your ID, you can check out an unlimited number of books for 60 days and DVDs for 2 weeks. If you need more time, most items can be renewed up to five times. For your first visit, just remember to let the staff member at the circulation desk know that you are an SCPS student; they may need to manually enter your information into the checkout system.

The best way to find out if the High Library has a book you are interested in, is to search our library catalog. The catalog is also searchable through Quick Search, on the library’s home page. The benefit of searching Quick Search is that you will also see our full collection of eBooks within your results. Make sure you use the filters on the left side of your results to narrow your results to ‘books’.

If you don’t already have your Elizabethtown College ID card, you can stop by the campus security office before coming to the library. You won’t need your ID card to enter the library before 10 pm, but you will need it to check out those books!

Can’t get to Elizabethown to visit the High Library? The Library belongs to two consortiums that will allow you to check out books directly from other college and university libraries.* We call this reciprocal borrowing. All of the libraries participating in this program will let you check out a book with your Elizabethtown ID, although the number of books and the length of time you can check them out for will vary. You should check with the library you intend to visit before making the trip. If you’d like more information on our reciprocal borrowing program, check out our about page where you will find links to all of the participating libraries.

If you have questions about book borrowing or other library resources, SCPS’s Liaison Librarian, Jennifer Strain is happy to help!
