Staff Spotlight: Allie Hagerman, Office Manager

Staff Spotlight: Allie Hagerman, Office Manager

We are excited to welcome Allie Hagerman in her new position as Office Manager. She previously held the Administrative Assistant position at our York center. We asked Allie to tell us a little bit about her background and what interested her in taking on this new role.

“My name is Allie Hagerman and I was born and raised in York, Pa. I attended Central York School District before going to the University of Maryland, College Park, to earn my degree in Journalism, with a minor in Biology. While a student at Maryland, I studied abroad in Rome for a semester and also interned at Air & Space/Smithsonian magazine in downtown Washington, D.C. While at Maryland, I also started volunteering as a keeper aide at the Smithsonian National Zoological Park, which ended up leading to a three-year career as zookeeper in the Cheetah Conservation Station, Asia Trail, Prairie Trail and Great Ape House units.

Following my move back to Pennsylvania from D.C., I worked several jobs involving journalism, including being a beat reporter for a daily newspaper and working in public relations for the 150th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg. I also completed some coursework at York College of Pennsylvania in Secondary English Education. Immediately before my job offer at Elizabethtown College, I worked at the local York County SPCA as their Community Outreach Coordinator, assisting with community outreach efforts and shelter events.

I have always been and always will be a lover of learning. To me, selecting a college back in high school was one of the most exciting times of my life. I was ecstatic when I was offered the job as the York Office Assistant for Elizabethtown College’s School of Continuing and Professional Studies. I was able to dive into helping faculty and students at the York campus while also assisting with administrative and academic tasks. When later offered the position of Office Manager at the Elizabethtown campus, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to further explore working in an academic setting. Education is such a worthwhile endeavor, and it is pleasure to be able to watch students make strides to improve their own quality of life by pursuing post-secondary education. It is a privilege to be a small part of the larger picture that is Elizabethtown College!”

Please join us in welcoming Allie to her new position!
