Database Spotlight: CQ Researcher

Whether you are searching for detailed information on a policy issue, objective coverage on a controversial topic, or both the pro and con sides of a debate, CQ Researcher, is a great resource. This database is available to you through the High Library.

The reports on CQ Researcher cover topics of social and political interest, with a special focus on controversial topics. Reports come in both short and long forms. Full reports contain substantial overviews discussing the chronology of an issue, as well as research on key debate points. Sections cover the topic’s background, current situation, and the future outlook. There is also a pro/con section presenting expert opinions for both sides of a debated question. Of particular use are the bibliography and “Next Step” sections included with each report. These provide direct links to resources for further research.

Authors of CQ Researcher reports are vetted journalists and each report is fully cited. Reports are published as a complete document, so each has a print form of around 20-30 pages. Since individual reports are not updated after publication, it is important to pay attention to their publication date. However, for the most-researched topics, short reports are published on a yearly basis as updates to the full reports.
