Staff Member Spotlight: Stephanie Hughes

We are so excited to welcome the newest member of the SCPS, York administrative assistant, Stephanie Hughes. We asked Stephanie to tell us a little bit more about herself and what interested her in this new position!

“After graduating from Shippensburg University with a B.A. in Communications, I began working in administrative support positions in a variety of fields. Skills that I learned in college traveled with me as I moved during the next 20 years with my active duty Navy husband.  We moved from Pennsylvania to the Republic of the Philippines, to the Republic of South Korea, and on to Virginia, Washington, and Maryland. It was during our travels that I came to appreciate the differences in what adult education was available to students.

I met military men and women who were working – one course at a time – on obtaining a degree. Their schedules and deployments may have delayed their goals, but the irregular schedules did not prevent them from achieving that goal. I certainly admired their commitment to continuing their education.

I, too, have returned to school as an adult.  I took courses not only to update skills, but to be in a classroom where I met new people, challenged old ideas, and learned.

Elizabethtown College is the third college that I have worked supporting adult learners.  I am pleased to be a part of The School of Continuing and Professional Studies.  I like meeting and assisting adults who believe in continuing education, and I look forward to being a part of their success.”

Please help us in welcoming Stephanie to her new position! Welcome aboard!
